Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport
The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is owned by the city of New Orleans and is 11 miles west of down town New Orleans. Although this airport is an international airport, most of the commercial flights to and from the airport are in fact domestic. The airport was opened during World War II to replace the older New Orleans Lakefront Airport. At the time the airport was known as MSY, but the airport was renamed in 2001 after Louis Armstrong, one of the most famous jazz men to emerge from New Orleans.
